TREE PLANTATION PROVIDING MORE THAN A TOUCH OF BEAUTY
Filesi Kaluwa from Rumphi, who is a member of the Federation at Mlongoti centre, has proven how there is more to benefit from tree farming.
She grows trees and sells them. Since early this year, she has grown about 10, 000 trees which she has sold at K30 each. She has also purchased some goats and rabbits through her sales and right now she is the process of building a house which she will let out for rent.
From these sales, Kaluwa not only puts food on the table, she is able to support her daughter who is at college.
Her job not only helps her financially, it is also helping the country in growing its forestation which was damaged due to excessive cutting of trees.
Besides tree plantation day which falls on the 21st of December, the numbers of tree in the country are not too appealing. Besides this day, this particular activity should be done all the time for trees provide more products to us than other materials.
A lesson to all; tree plantation provides more than beautifying the country. Kaluwa is a living example to that.
