It is much evident that a lot of orphans and vulnerable children face a lot of financial as well as social problems in their day to day lives. Just for example, some of these children fail to continue with their education; primary, secondary even college, and cannot afford to buy basic necessities. This consequently leads to a rising number of school dropouts among this fraternity. Well, these vulnerable kids may somehow feel hopeless and futureless but finally CCODE and the Federation have come to their rescue.
The alliance has established a scholarship programme to assist the vulnerable children to go back to school. The partnership, with financial assistance from two American donors, set aside fund money amounting to about MK305, 000 to kick start this important project. The scholarship will among other things provide school fees to these children, and basic necessities like school uniform and clothes.
About 30 orphans from community areas of Mtandire, Chinsapo and Area 23 in Lilongwe have already been identified and support for them will begin shortly in the next school calendar. 20 of them will be provided scholarship in primary schools and 10 in secondary schools.
The CCODE – Federation partnership has visions to expand the programme to reach as many orphans as possible in all corners of the country and plans are underway to extend the programme to encompass all education arenas; primary schools, secondary schools and colleges.
