Rumour has it that Chasato will no longer be the home for those that live there. It will be known as the place once called home as a University of Science: Aquatic Life Forms is soon to be built on the land.

Chasato is approximately 72kilometers from the lake of Malawi and has four chiefs. Residents of this village worry that they have lived in this area for most of their lives. Chasato is in Nkhotakota. Residents from the village, together with village headman, Kanyenda, have shown great remorse to this particular information regardless of its credibility.

One of the headsmen told Halala that sometime last year; officials to Chief Kanyenda, alongside some representatives of the government, visited their lands for surveying and studying.

“Last year all we heard were rumours but now things are becoming much clearer” said one of the Village Headmen of that area, who asked to be kept anonymous. He added that earlier this year, some specialists had gone to the village to study the land to help them create their plans for this university.

“My parents came to settle here in 1940. We were born here and have been raised here and some of us even got the privilege of being appointed chief. If we move, where will we go? And who will stay with?” complained one of the chiefs.

Most people in this village are living in fear and worry. They fail to develop their land for the fear of wasting their time and money, especially if they will eventually have to move.

As days go by, they continue to be miserable as they understand that regardless of their unwillingness, their time to leave is drawing near.

“What needs to be done is for these people to come to talk to us and explain to us what exactly is happening instead of surprising us on one random day and asking us to pack up and go” said one of the village chiefs.

According to our reporters, it is to our knowledge that this was not the only village that was inspected in that district. It is believed that there are other factors that are contributing to the idea of building the university in Chasato. Speculation is not for us, very soon, the truth shall be revealed.
